punk poet, musician, writer, theatre maker & feminist showgirl.

Brigitte Aphrodite is a punk poet, musician, writer, theatre maker and feminist showgirl. During her formative years Brigitte toured extensively as a musician, alongside artists such as Kate Nash and Josie Long.  Most recently, she is best known for her critically acclaimed show My Beautiful Black Dog; a part gig, part theatre, punk musical exploring depression. It sold out at the Edinburgh Fringe and Southbank Centre, toured nationally and featured in the Guardian, Elle and on the BBC 10 O’clock News. Through the Wellcome Trust a workshop based around the show was developed and carried out in schools across the country. Brigitte’s expressive, multidisciplinary work has won her a loyal following, including the likes of Arthur Brown and Lauren Laverne.

Brigitte also mentors young artists, speaks on panel discussions, curates, DJs, presents events and teaches workshops. She is an associate artist at Hackney Showroom. She is currently developing her new show, Parakeet, an explosive new piece of gig-theatre. A feast for the eyes, ears and heart, Parakeet features punk poetry, wild dance moves and good old fashioned storytelling.
